Renewable Assets creates and delivers renewable energy solutions that balance clients' business and sustainability goals worldwide.

In 2010 Renewable Assets, LLC (RA), a wholly owned subsidiary of CMS International, Inc. was established to serve the ever growing renewable energy industry. From the very beginning RA took a holistic approach towards the needs of their clients, offering all aspects of sustainable, renewable energy and energy efficiency upgrades as part of a combined approach to solving their energy needs. While most companies only consider single source projects Renewable Assets believes that the first step in assisting any customer is to perform a full envelope energy audit determine what energy conservation measures can be applied to lower the overall power consumption and then to design and install the appropriate renewable energy solutions, or solutions, including solar, solar thermal hot water, small wind systems and bio-mass (waste to energy).

As a global leader in sustainable renewable energy solutions Renewable Assets entered the African and Eastern European markets in early 2010. In 2011 RA became a full pledged member of the United Nations Global Compact supporting the UN’s initiatives throughout the world and serves as a prime consultant to numerous African governments on sustainability and renewable energy solutions. RA is a partner with World Water, a leader in solar powered remote water pumping and desalinization solutions and RA’s CEO sits on the board of Lumeria Research, a leading manufacturer of LED lighting solutions. February 2013 SolarWorld America accepted RA as a premier installer of SolarWorld’s line of efficient PV modules.

History

Over the years, Renewable Assets (RA) has been involved in the development, design and installation of more than 50 Renewable Energy projects domestically, as well as in international markets, having a combined system generation capacity of over 350 Megawatts with a total capital cost in excess of $900 million.

In addition to RA’s extensive renewable energy experience our team of project development specialist, engineers and project managers are currently developing several bio-mass (waste to energy and waste to fuel) projects in the US, Mexico South America and Africa. In order to round out or commitment to the “all of the above” concept of Renewable Energy services in 2012 RA included wind and renewable energy thermal heat/hot water solutions to its growing list of Renewable Energy offerings. Combined with our partnerships with great industry leaders like World Water & Renewable energy Technologies, NEPAC and ICCOUNCIL, Renewable Assets now has the ability to provide a complete array of systems services that encompasses every avenue of the Sustainability and Renewable Energy industry.

Shree Venkateshwara Sponge and Power Pvt Ltd GROUND MOUNT DUAL AXIS TRACKING SOLAR

Renewable Assets has been selected to develop, design and construct a 5 megawatt ground mounted solar array utilizing the most up to date dual axis tracking solution in Bellary region in the Indian village of Halkundi. The project is intended to provide approximately 25% of the current electrical demand for Shree Venkateshwara Sponge and Power Pvt Ltd at the company’s existing “Advanced Technology” i.e. Preheating Sponge Iron facility. Sponge Iron is used initially in Induction furnace as a reducing agent for reducing Carbon in the scrap. With the completion of this Phase I, 5MW project SVSPP intends to contract Renewable Assets to develop and build two more systems, providing a total DC output of 15MWs.

Renewable Assets anticipates the completion date of the Phase I system of Bellary project to be in May, 2014

NEW JERSEY TRANSIT CARPORT SOLAR

Renewable Assets has been awarded a 5 megawatt project with New Jersey Transit. The original concept for the project is to install 5MWs of PV modules on a carport solution in order to provide the power directly to the Frank Lautenberg NJ Transit Transfer station in Secaucus, NJ. The system is to be installed over a recently closed landfill which is to be capped with an asphalt paving and provide 3,500 much needed parking spaces for the Transfer Station.

Meeting the new requirements set forth in legislation recently signed into law by NJ Governor Chris Christie this project will not only utilize an otherwise unusable track of closed landfill, but also support the State’s energy plan by providing clean, sustainable energy at a reduced rate. The NJ Transit project is scheduled to be completed by 1 March, 2014.

FIRMENICH US HEADQUARTERS

Located in Plainsboro, New Jersey, the Firmenich Parking Structure Photovoltaic Array project is a 1MW electrical generation system installed on a specially designed “Space frame” structure, and installed over the top level of an existing three level parking structure serving Firmenich’s US headquarters. The Space frame structure will not only provide employees with comfortable and safe parking, but the polycrystalline SunPower 305 photovoltaic panels provide affordable electrical service for the executive building.

Renewable Assets, LLC (RA) managed the successful execution of this multiple contract project, consisting of foundation, structural and electrical contracts. RA was contracted to provide the developer complete preconstruction services, leading meetings with the facility owner and developer. Renewable Assets developed front end legal documents and technical specifications for the invitation to bid, and was responsible for the complete day to day on site construction management of the job, including project meetings, site monitoring, and scheduling of the contractors and subcontractors.

Renewable Assets surmounted existing site design challenges as the new space frame and solar array had to be installed over an existing and functional parking structure. With foresight, Firmenich’s original design and construction team had designed and built the structure with the intent of adding a fourth parking level in the future and with all the required foundation elements already in place the installation of the space frame was a flawless experience.

One major site challenge was the proximity of the existing parking structure in relation to the Executive Office Building and a large manufacturing building onsite. Because of necessary access by delivery trucks the space frame had to be constructed in the air, with the exception of one large section that covered the area over the ramp between the second and third levels. This section was constructed in two sections and lifted by crane into place.

This 1 Megawatt system produces 1,200,000 Kilowatt Hours of electricity per year which will provide over 10% of the facilities energy needs and is the equivalent of the power used by 150 average sized home. The environmental impact of this project is estimated to offset two million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions per year, the equivalent of planting nearly 100,000 trees.

AGP Ground Mounted Utility Scale East and West Arrays

Renewable Assets has assisted and guided Atlantic Green Power to develop their Upper Pittsgrove, New Jersey utility scale photovoltaic array design since its conception. In the initial phases Renewable Assets considered several multiple module manufacturers and array layouts in an effort to gain the maximum capacity and efficiencies for this site. We also carefully considered and advised which manufactures for modules and racking would be best utilized to support this large east coast utility scale project.

Initially, Renewable Assets considered sizing and the east array layouts that would support the installation of approximately 14MW DC. This design was based on a traditional single module row configuration and racking system, using a module with a 220W capacity. After analyzing the existing wetlands, swells, and other site features, Renewable Assets recommended using a racking system provided by UNIRAC allowing for the installation of 28 modules per rack, equating to 4 rows of 7 modules each and utilizing a higher capacity module from a manufacture like NESL with a 280W capacity. Utilizing the UNIRAC system allowed us to bridge the existing swells, thus covering more of the available land area. By utilizing the higher capacity modules PPS was able to increase the total system size to approximately 18MW DC.

Atlantic Green Power is currently weighing their final system design size options, including opportunities for increasing system size by utilizing newer modules entering the market with wattages of more than 310W. Several manufactures are currently in the process of testing and securing UL listings for higher wattage modules, which should be available on the US market later this year. The final system size will be determined once a new array layout is complete.

The western 60MW array has all entitlements and PJM grid connection arranged, and is currently under planning board review.

FIRMCHEM CARPORT

Located in Port Newark, an industrial park district in Newark, New Jersey, the Firmchem Carport Photovoltaic Array project is a 435.6 kW electrical generation system installed on top of a shading carport structure serving an industrial park office building. The shading structure will not only provide employees with comfortable and safe parking, but the polycrystalline Sanyo 220 photovoltaic panels provide affordable electrical service for the manufacturing plant.

Renewable Assets surmounted existing site design challenges as the proximity to the Port Newark waterfront provided unstable grounds and soil conditions. RA supervised soil boring testing and supported the installation of 40’ micro piers with caps to stabilize the carport structures.

Another site challenge was the required facility parking, access and construction staging of the project. Renewable Assets is carefully working with the Owner of the 24 hour ongoing manufacturing plant to ensure employees have a safe place to park and access the building while approximately 34,000 sf carports and polycrystalline PV panels were constructed.

Renewable Assets managed a very tight project timetable to assure the contractors met their scheduled obligation in order to complete the project in time to meet the federal incentives application deadline. With proper design and project management this exciting system was energized in the summer of 2011.

NFI SOLARE GROUND MOUNT SOLAR

Renewable Assets was contracted by NFI Solare Development Group, an Independent Power Producer to design and build a two phase ground mounted solar system on 11 acres of farm land in Vineland, NJ. This grid connected system ties directly into Vineland Municipal Electric Utility’s (VMEU) power grid and generates enough electricity to provide power to more than 400 homes annually. Knowledge, experience and a highly trained staff of industry professionals allows Renewable Assets to excel in managing this selective project and assures the client an on time, on budget solution to their construction needs.

As with many farming sites, the topography is relatively flat. Maximum grade difference between highest to lowest points is only four (4) feet, making storm water design and management a priority for the Renewable Assets team.

The first of two phases were constructed with thirty (30) rows of 608 wide flange steel beams being driven into the winter ground to support the 8512 photovoltaic panels, while the Renewable Assets construction management team oversaw all phases of the construction process, including the day to day operations, weekly subcontractor and Owner meetings, site monitoring, quality assurance and control, and scheduling. Quick turnaround of Engineer and Owner requests was a priority for the Renewable Assets Construction Management team.

Completed on May 15th, this project was another example of strong design management and project leadership by the Renewable Assets team.
